Hadith Explanation

Jamaah Necessary Wherever You May Be

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “There are no three men in a town or in the desert among whom prayer is not offered (in Jamaa’ah/congregation), but the Shaytaan has gained control over them. So pray in congregation, for the wolf devours the lone sheep.” [Sunan Abi Dawood]

It is easier for a person to be misled by the Shaytaan when there aren’t other people around to correct him. Praying together is one way to ensure positive contact with other Muslims. When people meet each other five times a day they will not be cut off from other members of their community.

The Shaytaan always comes as a sincere well-wisher but gradually misleads people.

He causes people to forget what is in their best interest and instills doubts in them.

He makes them procrastinate in doing good deeds by telling them that they have their whole lives ahead of them.

He makes them negligent in doing what they are commanded to do by promising them Allah’s forgiveness.

He makes them afraid of his allies.

He glorifies wickedness.

The only way we can counter the efforts of the Shaytaan is by remembering Allah and sticking to the company of those who remember Him.
