Hadith Explanation

Forgiven if Muwahhid

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Allah said, ‘The Hasanah is for ten like it or more, and the Sayi’ah is one, or I will forgive it. And if you meet Me with sins nearly as great as the earth, so long as you did not associate anything in worship with Me, I will meet you with forgiveness nearly as great as the earth.’” [Musnad Ahmad]

This hadith informs us that:

(1) Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) promises ten fold reward for every good deed. This is an example of Allah’s generosity.

(2) Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will count every bad deed as only one, and might not count it at all if He forgives it.

(3) Allah’s forgiveness can wipe out all our sins but is conditional upon our not having associated anything in worship along with Him (subhana wa ta’ala). The Muwahhid is the one who practices Tawheed and does not do any kind of Shirk.
