Hadith Explanation

I Saw I Heard I Know

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The worst type of lie is for a man to claim that he saw something which his eyes did not see.” [Abu Dawood]

Qataadah said: “Do not say, ‘I saw’ when you did not see, or ‘I heard’ when you did not hear, or ‘I know’ when you do not know, for Allah will ask you about all of that.” [Tafseer Ibn Katheer]

Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) says: “And follow not (i.e. say not, or do not, or witness not) that of which you have no knowledge. Verily, the hearing, and the sight, and the heart of each of those ones will be questioned (by Allah).” [Quran: Surah al-Isra, Ayat 36]
